How do I make a reservation in the cafE?

Reservations are made exclusively through OPENTABLE. They can be booked up to 30 days in advance. The cafe does not accept reservations over the phone. The dining room seats up to 20 guests, with a maximum reservation size of 6 guests from Tuesday to Saturday. Parties of 10 or more are considered private events and should use the PRIVATE EVENTS INQUIRY FORM.

Does the cafE accept walk-ins?

Yes. While reservations are encouraged, a four-stool countertop is reserved for walk-ins. Walk-ins are accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no cancellation waitlist.

Is there a prix fixe menu?

Yes. The cafe offers a prix fixe menu for dinner and afternoon tea:

  • Prix Fixe Dinner: includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Wine is available for an additional charge.
  • Afternoon Tea: includes a pot of tea, finger sandwiches, scones, assorted pastries, and a glass of sparkling cider or prosecco.

Breakfast and lunch are not prix fixe.

How do I attend Sunday afternoon tea?

Reservations for Sunday afternoon tea must be made via OPENTABLE. The maximum reservation size on Sundays is 4 guests. Reservations open at midnight 30 days in advance and often fill quickly. There is no cancellation waitlist, but walk-ins are accepted when space allows.

BOOKSTORE

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes. Gift cards can be purchased in-store or through our online store. These gift cards are valid for both the bookstore and the cafe. Note that digital gift cards purchased through Bookshop.org are for online use only and cannot be used in-store.

Is the building ADA accessible?

Yes. The ADA entrance is through the cafe courtyard. The building has an elevator on every floor and an accessible bathroom on the second floor.

What are the paint colors used in the store?

All paint colors are by Farrow & Ball:

  • 2nd and 3rd Floors (Blue): Light Blue
  • Stairwell Trim (White): Old White
  • Children’s Floor (Blue): Skylight
  • Aesthetics Room (Red): Rectory Red
  • YA Room (Gray-Blue): De Nimes

How can I submit my book to the store?

To submit a book for consideration, please fill out the BOOK SUBMISSION FORM. Due to the high volume of submissions, individual responses may not be provided. If the buyers are interested, they will reach out within a month.

Do you ship merchandise?

Select merchandise is available for shipping through our online store.

Are you hiring?

Currently, there are no active hiring positions, but this may change. Interested applicants are encouraged to fill out the JOB APPLICATION FORM.

EVENTS

Do you host private events?

Yes! We have limited availability for private events. If you are interested in having a private event, please fill out this EVENT INQUIRY FORM. We review these submissions regularly. Due to the high volume of requests, it may take up to two weeks to receive a response.

Do you host author events?

At the moment, we are focusing on offsite events and are not currently scheduling new in-store events other than select children's storytime readings. If this changes, we will make sure to update our availability here!

GETTING HERE

Where can I park to visit the store?

The closest parking garage is the Boston Common Garage at Zero Charles Street (underneath the Boston Common), which is about a 10 minute walk to the store. There is also metered street parking on Charles St.

What is the closest T stop?

The closest T stop is the Charles/MGH redline stop, which is about a 5 minute walk to the store. The Park Street greenline stop is also about a 10 minute walk to the store.
